Obi had a conflicting relationship with his lover's eyes.
(Lovers wasn’t really the accurate word to use when describing their relationship, but it was the best word he could come up with.)
But whatever they might be called, Obi still had a complicated relationship with his lover’s eyes.
A lot of complicated feelings.
It wasn’t a surprise that Elder Highness’ eyes were absolutely gorgeous, really, all of him was, but his eyes were also so similar to Master’s eyes.
They were a lot alike in many ways, though they had their distinct differences as well.
But Obi was in love with Master, just as he was in love with Mistress, and Master’s eyes were the same as Elder Highness’ and that was troubling.
In the first place, one of the things that had caused Obi to fall for Master had been those beautiful eyes.
(There were a lot of other things as well, of course, or he wouldn’t actually have fallen for him, because falling for people was something he simply didn’t do.)
Brilliantly blue eyes, holding conviction, determination, kindness, loss, love…
Sometimes it hurt, looking into either of their eyes.
(Looking into Master’s eyes he sometimes was reminded of Elder Highness. Looking into Elder Highness’ eyes he sometimes was reminded of Master. It could be so confusing.)
Those eyes – both Master’s and Elder Highness’ – could bind him, as if a spell had been cast upon him. Or upon them. He wasn’t sure which.
(Mistress’ eyes, too, though hers was different from both royals’ eyes.)
Sometimes, he felt the urge to kiss their eyelids, though he didn’t. It was an action he couldn’t do, it spoke of way more affection than he was comfortable to show. Not that way.
Instead when he looked into any of those eyes, he almost nearly touched, a hand or a lock of hair or a cheek.
He couldn’t get away with kisses that easily.
He could kiss Elder Highness, when they shared a bed, but sometimes he felt conflicted about that.
But sometimes he covered his eyes with a hand when he kissed him, because then he wouldn’t be confused.
It was unfair to them to be, so he did his best to focus.
(But that sometimes was like a curse he couldn’t escape.)
Being in love was troublesome, a complete bother and a feeling he wasn’t used to. He couldn’t let himself fall into any more traps like that.
Looking too deep was dangerous.
(In a way, he also feared his lover’s eyes, just a bit.)
